FIRE IN COLLEGE ST.

A fire occurred this morning at the residence of Mr J. Middlebrook, senr., College Street. The ringing of the fire bell bad the effect of bringing out a large number of people, who quickly proceeded to the scene of the conflagration, ready and eager to assist in any way possible to get the fire under which by this time had a good hold of the building. The fire evidently originated in the kitchen, but the exact cause has not yet been ascertained. Considerable damage was done to the interior, but thanks to a plentiful supply of water, the progress of the fire was checked and a large part of the building was saved, together with the furniture.
