A fatal accident occurred on Christmas Eve to Thomas Reynolds, aged 11, son of Mr. Frederick Reynolds of Leamington. The lad had gone to fetch the cows, taking a gun along in the hope of getting some rabbits. He went down a gully near his residence, and shortly afterwards his mother heard a gun fired, and then cries of distress. Looking down the gully she saw her son lying on the'ground, and on her reaching him found that he was dead. An inquest was held on Friday last, before Mr Dickinson, I.P. (Acting Coroner). The evidence disclosed that the deceased had evidently been trying to rouse a rabbit out of the brambles with the butt of his gun, holding the barrel towards him. A piece of wood .caught the trigger, the contents of the gun-barrel blowing the wall of the chest over the heart away? Notwithstanding this, the lad moved twelve yards away before expiring. A verdict in accordance with the evidence was returned.
