THE WAR.
(The following are reports from the High Commissioner for New Zealand received at Te Awamutu since our last issue) : — Received Nov. 20th, 7.37 p.m. TURKS LOSE GUNS AND MANY PRISONERS. The general commanding the force operating at Shat-el-Arab in the Persian Gulf, reports that an advance was made on the 17th Nov., nine miles up the right bank of the river. Our troops encountered 4,500 of the enemy in a strong entrenched position, with twelve guns. After overcoming a determined resistance, and turning his left flank, we carried the entrenchments. The enemy retired, losing two guns, many prisoners, animal transports, and reserve ammunition. Our casualties are —killed, three officers and 35 men ; wounded, 15 officers and 300 men. Received Novembe r 23, 8.14 p.m RUSSIAN SUCCESS. . Official. —The Russians gained a success against the Prussians at Cracow. The battle was decisive, and the German attempts to march on Warsaw were unsuccessful. Snow is impeding operations in both theatres of war. There has been only intermittent bombardment in the regions of the Arras and the Oise. Several lines of the enemy’s trenches have been taken, and the allies’ artillery repulsed massed attacks in the Woevre distiict,
