A meeting of the library committee was held on Thursday evening. The new books have arrived and, after being tabulated, will be placed on the shelves for circulating. The usual monthly meeting of the Alexandra school committee was also held on Thursdry evening, Mr Dent being in the chair. The minutes of the preceding meeting were read and confirmed and numerous accounts were passed for payment. The fenc ing of the school ground is almost completed and is a great improvement to the grounds. The school garden has been enlarged and is now nicely laid out in various plots. The school closed on Friday for the term vacation and reopens on Monday October 19th. It is hoped that the Education Board will see its way to send down a second assistant, to which the school is entitled.
On Friday evening the children’s social in connection with the undenominational Sunday School was held, when there was a very fair attendance. Songs and recitations were given by Misses Amy and Mary Russell, Gooder, Amy Baldwin, Alice Cox, Doris Bevan, Madge Peat, and Sylvia Harris ; Masters Jack McCarthy, Gilbert Cox, Arthur Sanderson, Harold Igglesden, and Val Whitlon. The accompaniments were played by Mrs McCarthy and Miss McLeod. During the evening many games were indulged in by the younger generation who enjoyed themselves thoroughly. The ladies provided refreshments which were done full justice to. Mr. and Miss Fear are to be congratulated on the success of the party.
