BOWLING.

A committee meeting of the Te Awamutu Bowling Club was held last night,in the commercial room of Jackson's hotel. Present were Messrs. M. S. Laurie (chairman), J. Jackson, R. B. Brown, F.H.Vile G. Gifford, D. Christian, and Henderson, senior. A communication was received from the tennis club, stating that owing to heavy expenses incurred by the Club, it was not their intention to continue using the telephone installed in the bowling club's pavilion.—Received. On the motion of Mr Brown, it was decided that no messages be sent be telephone outside the district.

A deputation consisting of F. D. Wood and S. J. Fortescue, representing the Band, waited upon the committee, to ask their cooperation regarding the holding of a picnic at the park on Labour Day. It was stated that other clubs had promised their support in every possible way. The deputation stated their object in holding the function, and the band being a public institution, was deserving of every support. A tournament was suggested, which might be an inducement to attend. The president said that he was sure that the function would receive the hearty support of the bowlers, who would do all in their power to help the band.

Mr Brown asked if it were intended to allow people inside the oval at night, because of damage being done to the ground. - An assurance was given by the deputation that necessary precautions would be taken to safeguard the bowling green. The deputation then thanked the committee and withdrew. Mr F. B. Bowden tendered his resignation as a member of the club.—Received with regret. Invitations to attend the official opening days were received from the Te Aroha and Coromandel clubs.

The following new members were proposed : —Messrs. H. W. Bentlv, Harold Williams, E. Kenan d F. A. Bayly. Mr R. McMillan (Auckland) was admitted as an honorary member of the club.

On the motion of Mr Christian, it was decided that all members pay a nomination fee of ss. The green superintendent (Mr Christian) said it would not be advisable to use the green for at least a month, and suggested deferring the opening day. It was pointed out that Mr Wm Taylor had donated a seat to the club which was now at the park. The secretary was instructed to write conveying the thanks of the club for the gift. Mr Gifford thought that a record of all presentations to the club should be kept, and it was resolved that a list be kept on record in the minute book.

As some expense had been incurred by the club in having the water laid on to the oval, Mr Christian was of opinion that the croquet and tennis clubs be asked to contribute 5s each towards the cost. Agreed to.
