WAIPA RACING CLUB.
There was a good attendance of members at the meeting of the Waipa Racing Club, which took place at the Te Awamutu Hotel on Wednesday evening. Mr H. Weal presided. Apologies for non-attendance were received from several members.
The chairman, apologising on behalf of the secretary, explained that urgent private business had necessitated Mr Abbott’s absence. The purpose of. the meeting, explained by the chairman, was to consider the advisability of applying for a tclalisalor permit for the district. He made reference to recent legislation, which empowered the issue of an additional thirty-one permits, and he personally urged that this district endeavour to secure a permit. To that end it would assist matters if an amalgamation of all district clubs could be satisfactorily arranged. From what the chairman could learn the Kihikihi club was favourable to a proposal to amalgamate provided the permit was granted. After some discussion the following resolution was unanimously carried: —“That the Waipa Racing Club seek the cooperation of the Alexandra, Kihibihi, and Ohaupo clubs, with a view to securing a totalisator permit for this district, and that, failing the amalgamation of all the clubs, then the Waipa club, with such of the clubs as do agree to the amalgamation, be empowered to officially apply for a permit for this district.”
Messrs A. Young, F. Quin, and H. Weal were appointed representatives to confer with the other interested clubs, and empowered to act on behalf of the Waipa club. It was suggested that, according to the wishes of the other clubs, a meeting of delegates representative of all four clubs be held to further the proposals. It was further resolved that the appointed representatives act on behalf of the Waipa club at the meeting of delegates, should such meeting eventuate.
