PIRONGIA.

(Own Correspondent.)

A large and enthusiastic meeting was held in the Town Hall on Wednesday evening by those willing to assist towards collecting funds in connection with the expeditionary force. Mr A. W. Jones occupied the chair. He stated that he had received word to call a meeting and collect funds. He also explained the gravity of the situation, and he felt sure that the people of Pirongia would gladly do their share.

Captain Ryder, Mr McCarthy, and others spoke on the subject.

It was resolved that a committee of five be elected to issue subscription lists and canvas for funds.

A list was opened in the hall, and in a few minutes over £SO was collected.

The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem, and cheers were heartily given for the New Zealand troops.
