PIRONGIA.
(Own Correspondent.)
The school committee held its usual monthly meeting last Thursday evening, those present being: Messrs Dent (chairman), Steele, Turrell and Parsons. The resignation of Mr Bell was accepted, and Mr Russell appointed to fill the vacancy.
The agricultural inspector visited the school during the month and proposed several alterations in the laying out of the grounds. An elaborate plan of the school ground, sent in by the inspector was discussed and held over for further consideration. Tenders for the fencing \oi the school ground were also held over till next meeting. It was also decided to fence round the school house and clear the ground of gorse and blackberry. • Miss McLeod resumed her duties at the beginning of the month. The" monthly • meeting of the Farmers' Union, which was to have been held on Monday evening, lapsed for want of a quorum. On Friday evening, the Pironga Pickles gave their grand variety entertainment to a most appreciative audience. The hall was crowded, and when the curtain rose, a very charming scene was presented. The stage was prettily festooned with ribbons and flowers, and the gay costumes of the performers blended harmoniously with the decorations. The items were received with great enthusiasm, every one being encored. What appealed to the mothers most was the " Pickles Prance," by six little pickles, each being the recipient of a bouquet. At the close of the performance Rev. Clarke thanked Mrs Parsons and her band of '' Pickles " for their most enjoyable-enter-tainment, also the audience for assembling in such large numbers.
