BREEDING OF POLO PONIES.

TO THE EDITOR,

SIR, —I noticed in your report of the Polo Club's social that a number of the speakers emphasised the remark that, with better ponies, the Te Awamutu team would have won the Savile Cup. Now, the way to accomplish that improvement is to mate well-bied low-set mares with a Shetland entire, this cross producing ponies with a good turn of speed, very active, and of wonderful endurance ; in fact, ideal polo ponies. Horses of this stamp command anything from £7O to even as high as £2OO in India: Two-thirds of the ponies with which the British team beat America for the championship of the world were bred on these lines. —I am., etc., Well-Wisher.
