THE SMALL FARMER AND FREEZING.
TO THE EDITOR. ' Slß,—Since attending a meeting recently held in Te Awamutu in connection with amalgamation of freezing companies, it has struck me that the raising of the required shares by the farmers generally is a matter that much concerns the welfare of our district and our country. Speaking as a small landholder, I think that we do not realise what an important matter this is to all of us. No doub| the man who is fattening and' ; disposing of fat stock realizes\ more fully the benefits which\ the freezing .industry confers upon him, but we, who are not so dtrectly interested, are apt to forget that we also are benefited by the export trade. It seems to me that if\we raisers of young stock and all engaged in stock raising or grazing do not take our part in proportion as we are affected, then we are not thoroughly co-operative, but are benefitting by the efforts put forth by those who are, largeminded and progressive epough to take their share. FrorrT'Yemarks passed by Mr Cooper I should also judge that if we generally do not unite on this question and subscribe sufficient capital to keep the various freezing concerns in our own hands, that there is a danger of the big American Meat Trusts possibly getting a footing in our country.
Surely we, who are all, or nearly all interested in our co-operative companies, are not going to allow this to come about. —I am, etc., George Hall. Hairini, June 13th"," I9U-
