Local enterprise in one particular form at least, received something of a set-back at the Police Court yesterday when a man named Frederick E. Smith, a resident of Hairini, appeared before Messrs J. B. Teasdale and H. J, Jones J's.P., to answer a charge that he did at Hairini, in or about the month of May, make a counterfeit half-crown coin with intent to make it resemble current silver coin. Constable Lander, who had in his possession Smith's money-making apparatus merely laid the and asked that the accused be remanded as other charges were pending. .A remand was accordingly granted until 10 a.m. on Saturday, when accused will appear before the Magistrate at Te Awamutu. Bail was allowed in two sureties, self £SO and one of £"SO.
