TE AWAMUTU TOWN BAND.

A meeting of the committee of the Te Awamutu Town Band took place at the WAIPA POST office last night, Mr A. G. Warburton, vice-president presiding in the unavoidable absence of the president, Mr J. Jackson.

After routine business had been transacted, a vote ot thanks was accorded Mrs A. Bygrave for her thoughtful action in sending on the band's behalf, a wreafth to the relatives of the late Mr G. P. Amor.

Mr A. J. Blythe tendered his resignation as a member of the band owing to his inability to spare the time to attend practices at present. The resignation was accepted with regret, Mr Blythe being elected a life member of the band in recognition of his valued services in its promotion and establishment.

The ladies' guild of the Presbyterian Church wrote thanking the band for having abandoned a proposed bazaar in October in view of the fact that the church intended ,to conduct a similar function inNovember. —Received.

The assistant-secretary reported that Mr J. Jackson had donated a uniform to the band. —A very hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr Jackson. The secretary reported having circularised all Waikato and King Country bands with reference to the proposed Band Contest to be held at Te Awamutu next October, to contest the shield donated by the Dresden Piano Co. At date six bands had definitely entered, namely, Otorohanga, Te Aroha, Morrinsville, Huntly, Cambridge and Te Awamutu. The correspondence went to indicate that two other bands, at least, would enter. —It was resolved that the entries close on June 30th and that all bands be notified accordingly. It was decided to conduct an art union to be drawn on the evening of the contest. The secretary was directed to apply for the necessary permit, the prizes to be mineral specimens to the value of £IOO. It was decided to write to Lieut. Herd of Wellington, asking that he undertake the duties of judge at the contest.

By request, Mr J. Rule attended the meeting for a few minutes and conferred with the committee upon proposals for the arranging of other attractions on the day of the content. Mr Rule undertook to promote a fancy dress American Push-ball match, for which offer he was heartily thanked. Other arrangements concerning the contest and carnival were considered, and the secretary was instructed to make the necessary enquiries and report to the next meeting.
