SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
A meeting of the Te Awamutu school committee was held at Messrs Lawson, Swain, and Walker’s office on Friday evening, there being present:—Rev. F. W. Clarke (chairman), Rev. D. J. Shaw, Messrs M. C. Lawson, S. Clark, G. Spinley, and A. C. Tremain.
After the minutes had been confirmed and other routine business transacted, the discussion turned to the appointment of a secretary. It was unanimously resolved that Mr A. J. Bray be appointed at a salary to be fixed at the end of the year. It was resolved that the chairman and secretary operate on the bank account.
It was decided to approach the Te Awamutu Retail Traders’ Association with a view to a canvass being made for funds to secure the balance required to have the technical school and agricultural laboratories set up at Te Awamutu.
Messrs S. Clark and Spinley were appointed delegates to wait upon the local branches of the > Farmers’ Union witfi reference to technical school proposals, and Mr Lawson was requested to approach the auctioneering firms, doing business in the district with a view to securing their financial support for the same purpose. To a like end the chairman and Mr S. Clark were deputed to wait upon the Town Board, and a letter is to be addressed to the Chamber of Commerce.
It was resolved that the headmaster be requested to furnish a monthly report to the committee, so as to keep the members fully advised of all matters pertaining to the general conduct of the school and of its -surroundings. At the conclusion of the meeting the chairman submitted a letter he had received from Mr George George, director of technical education, with reference to the proposed establishment of a local technical school He asked if the committee desired to reply in any certain manner.
The meeting thanked the Rev. Mr Clarke for the information contained in the letter, and expressed appreciation of the' work he was doing to ensure the establishment of the school. The committee would not, however, make any formal communication until such time as the full amount (£250) was assured, when definite application could be made.
