PIRONGIA.
(Own Correspondent)
A meeting of the committee of the Pirongia Tennis Club was held on Friday evening and, in the absence of Mr Finn, Mr K Peat presided. It was decided to play for the trophies kindly presented by Miss Miller, as soon as possible, and arrangements in this connection were fully considered. Arrangements in connection with the club's forthcoming social were duly considered, Mr K. Peat undertaking the duties of secretary.
On Tuesday evening about thirty persons assembled at the public library on the occasion of an address delivered by the Rev. Kay, delegate of the Bible in State Schools League. In the course of his lecture the speaker quoted figures showing an increase of juvenile crime in the Dominion during recent years. He dealt fully with the subject in all its varying aspects, and urged upon those present to work solidly for the introduction of bible reading in the state schools. At the conclusion Mr J. T. Johnson, who presided, invited questions, and several enquiries were made and satisfactorily answered. Although the meeting was by no means unanimous on the question at issue, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded the lecturer for his capable and instructive address.
