POLICE COURT.
MONDAY, APRIL 6TH, 1914.
(Before MESSRS H. R. RYDER and H. J. Jones, J.’sP.)
A middle-aged man named Allan Edwards was charged by the police (Constable Lander) with being drunk in a public place. He was further charged with assaulting Dr J. S. Reekie. The accused admitted being drunk, but denied all knowledge of assault. It appears that on Saturday night, during the meeting in connection with the Waikato Freezing Company at the Oddfellows’ hall, the accused made his appearance in an intoxicated state. He was conducted outside by the doctor,who, while in the act of closing the door, was struck by the'accused. The latter then opened the window, and continued to disturb the meeting. On being informed of the matter, Constable Lander went to the hall and spoke to Edwards, but was compelled to use foi'ce to get him away. Accused was taken into custody. When arrested he had the sum of £4 10s in his possession. For being drunk accused was convicted and fined ss, and on the charge of assault he was fined £l and costs £1 is.
