FARMERS' (IN) GRATITUDE.

TO THE EDITOR. SIR, —A great deal has been said and presentations made to various officers of the late farmers' camp, yet not one word of appreciation has been given to one who to the minds of several did the lion's share of the work. I refer to Dr Reekie, who held the important and not too pleasant position of Sanitary officer for the huge camp. It is very hard to say what the results would have been had it not been for his watchful eye, and never ceasing attention to the .duties imposed upon him, and the strikers' boast, that the camp was " full of disease "mightvery easy have become truth, Anyone who visited the camp or has seen some 1500 or 2000 men and horses therein must know the amount of labour entailed to keep that body free from disease; yet it is gratifying to know that nothing of the kind entered the camp. Not only did he perform the above duties, but he also took his place with his squadron when away from camp on patrol, being ever ready to take his place if occasion arose. Now Sir, I for one should like to see some re-, cognition of the doctor's services made at the forthcoming special's picnic at Ruakura. I hold no brief for Dr Reekie, he is not even my family medical adviser, but I believe in " honour to whom honour is due." Trusting the Te Awamutu branch of the Farmers' Union (at least) will take the matter up and show their appreciation. —I am, etc., W.G.—One of the Specials.
