FARMERS' UNION.
PATERANGI BRANCH. A meeting of the above branch was held in the hall on Thursday evening, there being a good attendance of members. Mr W. G. Macky occupied the chair.
Farmers' Union Defence Fund
The secretary read a reply to enquiries re. this fund, the reply being considered unsatisfactory. It was decided to ask for further information.
Railway Siding at Ngaruawahia. The secretary stated he had supplied to the head office the information asked for. —Action approved.
Auctioneering Co-operative Co,,
Lower Waikato.
Members expressed sympathy with this movement, but had no recommendation to make.
Mounted Constabulary Corps. It was not considered possible to enrol sufficient members to form a corps. It was decided to acknowledge receipt of rules, and join in with Te Awamutu. Social Committee.
A suggestion for the development of the social and educational functions of the branch, and the forming of a ladies' committee was left with the secretary to make further inquiries. Department of Agriculture,
A circular letter was received from the above department asking for suggestions re the matter of advertising the Dominion at the Panama exposition. The secretary was instructed to acknowledge receipt of letter, and congratulate the Hon. Mr Massey on the steps he was taking to advertise the Dominion. Farmers' Picnic at Ruakura. Secretary was instructed to supply the information asked for, and state that a large number would be going from this district. J.£. for Paterangi District. Information was received that Mr W. G. Macky had been appointed a J.P. Proposed by Mr Brennan that Y the attention of the executive be*"" 1 drawn to the suggested increased tariff on manufactured iron goods. Mr Snell agreed if the council or settlers would supply a trough for erection at creamery corner, to connect same with creamery water supply. A vote of thanks was accorded Mr Snell for his offer.
Mr Finch spoke very strongly on the present method of selling chaff.—Decided to send this as a remit to Provincial Conference. The following was also received as a remit: "That the Executive of the Farmers' Union be recommended to consider the advisability of starting a farmers' bank. '
