LAWN TENNIS.

PIRONGIA V. TE AWAMUTU

The representatives of the Te Awamutu Tennis Club journeyed to Pirongia on Wednesday last to try conclusions with the latter club. Victory rested with the visitors by 13 sets to 4. The games proved most enjoyable. The following are the scores, Te Awamutu being mentioned first in each instance

Ladies’ Singles. —Mrs Wade 7, v. Miss Fear 4; Miss McDonald 7 v. Miss McLarnon 3 ; Miss Masters 7, v. Mrs Sullivan 2; Miss Rickit 7, v. Miss N. Russell 2. Men’s Singles. —North 7, v. Finn 2; Cran 7, v. Chambers 4; Griffith 7, v. Milligan 0; Archibald I, v. B. Holmes 7 ; Newton 4, v. A. Fear 7 ; Davis 7, v. W. Holmes 5. Ladies’ Doubles. —Misses Mckenzie and Masters 4, y. Misses McLeod and Peat 7.

Men’s Doubles.—Cran and North 7, v Chalmers and Finn 0; Griffith and Archibald 2, v Milligan and B. Holmes 6 ; Newton and Davis 6, v A. Fear and W. Holmes 2. Combined Doubles.—Mrs Wade and North 7, v Miss Fear and Finn 5; Miss McDonald and Cran 7, v Miss McLarnon and Chalmers 5 ; Miss Mackenzie and Griffith 7, v Miss McLeod and Milligan 5. Te Awamutu thus won by 13 sets to 4, or 101 games to 66. Although most of the sets were won by Te Awamutu, the games were far from one-sided, being evenly contested.

To-morrow it is the intention of several members of the Pirongia club to visit Whatawhata, with the object of playing tennis there.
