RANGIAOHiA.

(Own Correspondent)

A meeting of the Hairini branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was held in the hall here on Monday evening, and notwithstanding the wretched weather the attendance was very good indeed. After the minutes of the previous meeting had been read and confirmed the following gentlemen were unanimously elected members of the branch Messrs T. Tye, R. Baillie, H. Coilinson, H. Park, G. Grice, H. S. ’ Stkhwbridge and R. P. Ward.

On welcoming these gentlemen as members of the union the president, Mr G. Hall, spoke of

the urgent need for strong co-

operation amongst farmers, this need having been only too well

shown in the great labour trouble

just being passed through, and in connection therewith the following motion was brought forward by the president“ That the Hairini branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union expresses its hearty thanks to, and appreciation of the highly-suc-

cessful efforts put forward by the

Executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union in the recent ■ labour crisis, and also, that Litis branch wishes to place on record its high appreciation of the noble work done by His Worship the Mayor of Auckland (Mr C. J. Parr), as also that done by Mill. H. Gunson, chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board, and further that a most hearty vote of thanks be tendered to those who, at great sacrifice to themselves, had left their homes and their work and gone to the 1 front ’ to j aid in keeping order and in opening the port of Auckland for the usual trade.” Needless to say, this motion was carried with acclamation, all present being loud in their praise of the way in which the whole matter had been carried through by those mentioned in the president’s motion. Mr J. S. Phillips regretted that owing to his leaving the district, he must, of necessity, resign the position of secretary of the branch. —Mr Herbert Mandeno was unanimously elected secretary for the remainder of the financial year.

On the motion of Mr 11. Mandeno it was decided that an appreciation of the retiring secretary’s services be placed on the minute book, and that he (jno. S. Phillips) be made a life member of the Hairini Branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union.

The usualjhanks to the chair terminated a highly-successful meeting.
