BOWLING.

There was a fair attendance at the local bowling green last Wednesday. The fixtures for the first round of the pairs competition for the Norden stars have been drawn, and two games were played during the afternoon. Edgecumbe and Wood succeeded in defeating Wallace and Vile: 27 —15. A closely-contested game was witnessed between Laurie and W. J. North and Brown and Lander, the issue being in doubt till the last head was played. Unfortunately rain began to fall during the latter part of the game, making the green very heavy. The result was a win for Brown and Lander : 17 —15. The following are the remain - ing fixtures of the first round : Brackenridge and Warburton v. Henderson (senr.) and Mclnnes ; Gifford and Phillips v. Slonehouse and Jackson; Clements (senr.) and J. T. North v. H. J. Jones and A. Young’; von Summer and Ross v. White and Christian ; Henderson (junr.) and F. W. Clarke v. Stewart and Wheeler.
