The appointment of the South Australian cricket captain, Mr Clem Hill, as a stipendiary steward for the racing clubs will compel his retirement from cricket. His appointment dates from January tst next, and will require his attendance on the racecourse every Saturday, so that it looks as though the cricket field will know him no more. Mr Hill is quite a young man—he will not be 37 until March 18th next—and his loss to Australian cricket can hardly be over-estimated.
