The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., re port : CAMBRIDGE SALE. We held our monthly stock sale and annual bull sale at Cambridge on Monday last, when a very heavy yarding of all classes came forward. The entry comprised 197 bulls, mostly Shorthorns, 179 head of beef, store cattle, 119 springers, 150 sheep and 60 pigs. There was keen competition for good Shorthorn bulls and most satisfactory prices were obtained, a two year old Shorthorn bull sold on account of Mr Wm. Vosper topping the market at 23gns. Nearly all fat cows were quitted although prices were a trifle easier, but a better demand existed for stores, and young cattle, which showed a rise in values. Prices : —Prime fat cows £7 14s to £8 2s 6d, good cows £6 18s to £7 6s, others £6 to £6 14s, fat steers £lO 15s, cows in forward condition £4 14s to £5 ss, cows in fresh condition £4 to £4 ns, store cows £3 2s 6d to £3 14s, turo year old steers £4 lls to £4 14s, two year old empty, dairy heifers £4 7s 6d to £4 I2s, 18 months old heifers £3 I2s to £3 17s 6d, yearling heifers £2 13s to £3 is, 15 months heifers up to £3 10s, yearling steers £2 17s to £3 Bs, mixed yearlings £2 9s to £2 16s, fat hoggets £1 is to £l 2s, hoggets in wool 15s 3d to 16s 2d, ewes and lambs £1 os 3d, weaner pigs 15s 6d to £l, slips £l 2s to £1 Bs, porkers £1 15s to £l 19s, yearling Shorthorn bulls on account of Mr Wm. Vosper and Mr Jas. Taylor lOgns to l6gns, yearlings on account of Messrs Kirkby Bros, and Mrs Plicks 9gns to I3gns, on account of other clients 7gns to lo%gns, two year Shorthorn bulls on account of other clients 6gns to I3%gns, three and four year old Shorthorn bulls for service I2gns to l6gns, aged bulls 4gns to Bgns according to condition. Holsteins: Three year olds 7gns to 9gns, two years to yearlings 6gns to 9gns, Jerseys : Two year olds to Bgns, yearlings to sgns.
Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report as follow : We held our usual fortnightly sale in the Ohaupo yards on Tuesday, October 2lst, when we had a fair yarding of cattle. Springers were dull of sale but cows and calves and empty cows were in good demand. We quote : —Fat cows £5 5s to £6 14s, cows and calves £4 16s, empty cows £4 9s to £5 2s 6d, empty heifers £3 15s, yearlings £2 2s 6d to £2 16s.
On Wednesday, 22nd October, we held our usitjrl sale in the Matamata yards when we yarded 748 head cattle. There was a keen competition throughout the sale, especially for grown cattle, while all springers and bulls were sold at advanced prices. We quote: —Fat steers £9 2s 6d, fat cows £5 16s to £7 4s, forward cows £4 15s to £5 15s, empty cows £3 3s to £4 10s, 2 year empty heif • ers £3 18s to £4 ss, 12 to 15 month steers £2 lOs to £3 9s, yearlings £2 3s 6d to £2 I Is, yearling heifers £2-9s to £3, springing heifers £5 15s to £7 17s 6d, dairy cows £6 15s to £B, 2 year bulls (Shorthorn) Q to Isgns, yearling Shorthorns BJ2 to lOgns, Holsteins 5 to y J /ig ns, Jerseys 3 to 4J4gns.
In the Hamilton yards on Thursday, October 23rd, we held our usual triweekly sale, when we yarded 671 sheep, 522 cattle and 51 pigs. Young cattle and dairy cows were dull of sale but beef and empty cows and sheep were in keen demand. We quote : Weaner pigs 15s to £1 6s, stores £l lOs to £l 19s, porkers £2 to £2 6s, fat wethers £1 4s, fat ewes £l Is to £1 5s 6d, empty ewes 15s to 17s, hoggets Ils 6d to 14s, fat bullocks £lO to £l2, fat cows £6 19s to £7 I2s 6d,2 2 2 year steers £3 2s to £5 lOs, empty cows £3 I2s to £4 Bs, cows and calves £4 5s to £5, yearling heifers £2 ils to £3 6s, yearling steers £2 Is to £2 18s, springing heifers £4 5s to £7, dairy cows £5 to £7 15s. On Friday, 24th October, we held a clearing sale at Tamahere on account of A. M. Thompson, Esq., who has sold his farm. There was a large attendance of buyers, and we had an extra good sale, the whole herd averaging £9 18s. Calves and pigs were also in good demand, and all sundries sold at advanced prices. We quote : —Sow and litter 8% gns, sows in pig 4%gns, boars I to iJigns, weaner pigs (8 weeks old) £l 4s, calvers averaged £l s 6s, dairy cows £6 15s to £l3, Holstein bull Bgns, Jersey bull 2%gns, yearling heifers £2 12s 6d, 2 fat cows £6 17s 6d, empty cows £3 17s. On Wednesday, 29th October, we held our horse fair in the Hamilton Horse Bazaar when we offered 204 horses of all classes. The unbrokens were rather a poor lot, and for these competition was dull. Anything good in the draught and light horses was eagerly sought after, and we were successful in clearing most of the entry. We held our monthly stock sale in the Te Aroha yards on Friday, the 31st October, when we varded 388 head of cattle, all of first ciass condition and
quality. Four pens of yearling steers for J. Woollord, Waitoa, making £4, £3 17s, £3 *3s and £3 lOs respectively. There was a good attendance of buyers and we report a total clearance. As is usual at this time of the year dairy stock was easier in price. At Te Awamutu .on Saturday, Ist November, we had a full yarding of stock. Dairy cattle and bulls were dull of sale. Empty cows and yearling steers sold well.
