(Own Correspondent). Despite the miserable weather there was a large attendance at the concert held in the town hall on Friday evening, in connection with the Presbyterian Church. The items were all splendidly rendered, and were greatly appreciated. The programme was opened with an overture by the renowned Bedford’s orchestra. Mrs Parry’s rendering of “ A May Morning,” was excellent, and as an encore gave Waiata Poi.” (Hill’s). Mr O. P. Owen was in splendid voice and sang “The Veteran’s Song.” Miss Margaret Mackenzie rendered “ Love’s Coronation ” in her usual splendid style, and for an encore sang “ Little Irish Girl. ’ A violin solo “ Shepherds’ Dance,” by Mr E. Moeller was much appreciated, and played as an encore “Blumenlied.” Mrs Harvey was heard to advantage in “Bonnie Mary of Argyle,” and when encored sang “I couldn’t, could I.” In the absence of Miss Ross, Miss Mackenzie sang, “The end of a Perfect Day,” and encored “ Hame.” In the second half of the ( programme Mrs Parry sang “My Ain Folk,” and for an encore “Robin Adair.” Mr O. Price Owen’s rendering of the Bedonne Love song was splendid, as was Miss Mackenzie in the song “Less than the Dust.” On being recalled she sang “Blue Bonnets o’er the Border.” A violin solo, “ Air Varie,” by Mr E. Moeller was encored, and “Country Dance” was his recall number. Mrs Harvey’s singing of “ Spring is Coming” and “Genevieve” was much admired, as was Mr E. Bedford’s ’cello solo “ Traumauree.”
Mrs Henderson made an able accompanist.
