SCOTTISH CONCERT.

The success which attended the concert given in aid of the Presbyterian Church building funds on Wednesday last must' have indeed been gratifying to the promoters. At 8 o'clock standing room only was available. The stage had been tastefully decorated with bunting and tartan, and the effect produced was very pleasing. The acetylene lighting plant, which had been installed, was used for the first time and proved a success, the footlights on the stage showing it off to advantage. The proceedings opened with a pipe selection by Pipe-Major S. Clothier (Hamilton), which was greatly appreciated.. The quartette, " Hail to the Chief," was sung by Misses Mackenzie, McNab (Auckland), Messrs Oliphant and Mc" lnnes. The audience demanded an encore. A great reception was accorded to Mrs Parry for her rendering of " Angus Macdonald," and in response to an encore sang " Land o' the Leal." She was equally successful later in the evening, when she sang "My Ain Folk" and "Robin Adair." A double encore was insisted on from Miss Mackenzie, who sang " Hame," her rich contralto voice being heard to advantage. In the second half of the programme she was associated with Miss McNab in a duet, which had to be responded to. " I'm a Scot" was sung with excellent expression by Miss McNab, as was also the song, " Down the Burn, Davie Lad," encores being insisted on in each case. Mr Oliphant, who is wellknown toTe Awamutu audiences, sang "Bonnie Dundee" in a pleasing manner. An appreciative rendering of "Bonnie Mary of Argyle " was given by Mr T. Mclnnes, and he was recalled. Items that pleased the audience were the dancing of the Scottish Reel by the Frankton Juvenile Reel team, an Irish jig by Miss Denz, a step dance by Miss Todd and Masters Finnie and Cameron. Mrs Henderson acted' as accompanist during the evening.
