HOWDEN CUP.
On Saturday evening (says the Huntl’ Press) the Huntly Association football team met the
representatives of the managing executive who had journeyed from 1 Hamilton for the express purpose of handing over the cup won by the local men in a series of matches that had been engaged in by teams representing Hamilton, Te Kuiti, Otorohanga, Te Awamutu and Huntly. 'The Huntly team, which had seven points to its credit, was closely followed by the Hamilton team with six. The cup, which has been on view in Te Awamutu, was donated by Mr H. H. Howden. . Mr G. Hunt, in presenting the cup to the winning team, congratulated them on thjrir success, and said that in playing all their matches in Hamilton the Huntly men had displayed a zeal for the game that had done much to popularise, and the sacrifice which so many matches played away from home entailed was appreciated by all who were cognisant of it. Personally, he thought as highly of the spirit shown as he did of the success achieved, so that it was with pleasure that he handed over Mr Howden’s cup to the care of Mr Shilton, who, as skipper of the team, had led his men to victory. Mr Shilton returned thanks on behalf of the Huntly team.
