FIRE BRIGADE.
The adjourned meeting ot the Te Awamutu Volunteer Fire Brigade took place in the Cosmopolitan Club room last evening. Present Captain Bickerstaff (chairman), Lieutenant Amor. Foreman Moeller, Firemen Bockett, Paul, Haselden, Stewart and Edwards. Mr M. C. Lawson was also present. Foreman Moeller stated that the auditors had examined the books of the brigade which showed the liabilities to be some £2O in excess of the assets. The secretary had erred in not asking for assistance in regard to keeping the books. Mr Lawson,. said the present position of the brigade was not as satisfactory as one would wish to see it. He advocated business men taking over the financial business, and putting the .brigade on a proper footing. This would enable the members to devote more time "to practices. He was of opinion that the Town Board should be approached, and their support asked in assisting the brigade. It was, only a matter of time when the Board would have to take over the control of the brigade. He attributed the lack of support shown by the public to want of confidence in the management. It was proposed that the following form the finance committee Messrs Ross, Bickerstaff, Amor, Battson and Lawson. Fireman Edwards tendered his resignation as a member of the brigade. —Accepted. The chairman considered that the forming of a finance committee to act in conjunction \vith the brigade was a step in the right direction. The brigade would be relieved of the responsibility of finances and would be able to devote mbre time to practices, etc. They should be prepared to support one another and work harmoniously together for the good of the brigade. Fireman Stewart was unani- . rnously elected to the position of secretary to the brigade. *
