RANGIAOHIA ROAD BOARD.

The monthly meeting of Jhe above board was held in Bockett’s Buildings on Saturday. Present: Messrs Cavanagh (chairman), F. Bowden, Long, Storey and McGhie.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

OVERHANGING TREES,

A letter was read from the Board’s solicitors, stating what steps were necessary to compel owners to comply with the Board’s wishes in regard to overhanging trees. The chairman expressed the opinion that the matter was a big undertaking for the Board, and doubted whether it would be wise to proceed further in the matter. Mr McGhie' said v although it did not affect his district to a great extent, on a matter of principle he was in favour of having the work. done. Mr Bowden and Mr Storey agreed with the .last speaker.

After discussion it was proposed by the chairman and seconded by Mr McGhie that the clerk send out notices instructing owners to remove overhanging trees and hedges. WAIKATO JUBILEE. The chairman reported having attended the meeting of delegates in connection with the proposed Waikato Jubilee. It was pointed out that it was illegal for members to use the funds of local bodies for the purpose, and he had made no promise. It was anticipated that a surplus would result, which it was proposed to devote to the hospital. He (the speaker) failed to see why it was necessary to hold the celebrations for a fortnight. It might advertise the Waikato, but he did not see his way to donate the sum asked for If members cared to give a personal guarantee, they could do so. . It was agreed that the matter be deterred till next meeting in the hope that further information be obtained in the meantime. PIERCY’S ROAD.

A letter was read from ■ the Under-Secretary Pubjic Works Department, stating that steps were being taken to have the road taken under the Public Works Act. ‘ METALLING. * The chairman thought that the question of metalling contracts should be considered by the Board. The amount of £250 was .available, and it was decided that the clerk call for tenders. CLERK’S SALARY. It was moved by fWr McGhie and seconded by Mr Storey that the clerk’s salary be £35 per annum.
