' meeting of the Council of ' the Te Awamutu Chamber of }; : Commerce held in the WAIPA /L Post office last nignt Mr S. J. Fortescue reported having taken, ih compliance with the Chamber’s instructions, a census of the population within the boundaries of the Te Awamutu Town District. He and Mr O. P. Owen had . called at every house, and were pleased to report that in every instance they had been well re- : ; ceived, and had met with a unanimous desire to see the constitution , of Borough assured. A detailed statement showing
the.various householders’ namqs in each street, and giving the ■iipkfDber of residents therein, was submitted/ This list was carefully checked by members of the Council, and the figures stated therein verified. The total number of residents within-the town boundaries is 1077, seven of whom were absent from Te Awamutu at the time of taking the census. Each of the census enumerators made a statutory declaration in connection with the returns submitted and the figures throughout were checked by the council.
