LOCAL AND GENERAL.
On Sunday afternoon the Town Band will play at Victoria Park commencing at 2.15.
It is notified by advertisement that the Kihikihi Town Board will strictly enforce certain bylaws after this date.
Tuesday next (King’s birthday) will be observed as a public holiday. All business premises will be closed throughout the day.
The Railway Department advertises the issue of holiday excursion tickets in connection with the Waikato winter show at H unilton on June 3rd, 4UI, sth, and 6th.
The Waikato Co-operative Bacon Co., Ltd., invite farmers to attend the works at Frankton Junction on Thursday, June sth, to witness slaughtering under the inspection of Government officers.
A belated honour for the Ayrshire bard. The Stratford Post says :—“ At Timaru yesterday, in the presence of a large gathering, a life-size marble statue of Sir Robert Burns was unveiled by Sir Robert Stout.”
There was a fairly large attendance at the Town Hall last night on the occasion of the weekly visit of the Premier Pictures. The programme was a good one, the several films being very clearly screened and much appreciated by the audience.
A man named Wm, Jones, alias Davis, was yesterday arrested at Papakura on a charge of having committed theft from a dwelling at Ohaupo on Monday last. Other charges of a like nature from Hamilton and Cambridge are to be preferred against him.
Mr R. W. Smith, M.P. for Wairnarino, is at present visiting Te Awamutu. Before returning south he will journey to Kawhia.
Shareholders in the Te Awamutu Terminating Building Society are notified by advertisement that the first payment of shares is to be made on Monday next.
Readers are reminded of the hockey carnival which takes place next Tuesday at Bockett’s paddock. Teams from Auckland, Taumarunui, Patera ngi, and Pirongia will take part.
The Waipa Post will be published on Monday evening ' of next week. Advertisements or other matters intended for publication in that issue must be received not later than 5 p.m. on Monday. This re-arrangement is found necessary in order that the papers may be dispatched by the mails which close that evening, instead of at the usual hours on Tuesday.
Arrangements are well in hand for the King’s birthday shoot, arranged by the Te Awamutu Defence Rifle Club, to take plpce at the Green Hill range on Tuesday next. A number of trophies have been presented, and it is anticipated that these will be keenly competed for by members of various rifle clubs and territorial forces. Given fine weather a most enjoyable outing should result.
