MONAVALE.
(Own Correspondent)
At the request of the local Settlers’ Association Mr J. A. Young, M.P. for Waikato, visited this district on Friday, and attended a complimentary social in the schoolhouse that evening. The building was packed, Mr W. G. Boyle, president of the association, presiding. Mr Doyle, in his opening remarks, extended to Mr Young, on behalf of the settlers, a very warm welcome to Monavale. He said that their member was proving himself an able representative, and showed that his interest in the farmers was genuine, and they hoped to keep him in the House for a longtime. In a brief address Mr Young returned thanks, and touched on many matters of considerable importance. The applause which greeted the speaker at the conclusion of his address and the singing of “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow were suffici ent evidence that the chairman’s remarks were not misplaced. A hearty vote of thanks and continued confidence in him as their member was accorded Mr Young on the motion of Messrs H. Giles and Wm. Gray. During the evening an entertaining musical programme was submitted and much appreciated, each item being loudly applauded. The committee is deserving of much congratulation on the success of the evening, the members of which had worked untiringly to bring about the undoubted success. A very hearty vote ot thanks was accorded Mr Doyle, members speaking of his ever-readiness to promote the welfare of the district. Supper was handed round, and a short but enjoyable dance concluded the function.
