All members and intending members of the Te Awamutu Girls’ Club are requested to meet at the supper room of the Town Hall on Tuesday, May 27th, at 7.30 p.m.
The Valuer - General, by advertisement to-day, notifies that the revised district valuation rolls may be inspected at the places stated in the advertisement.
The presentation of a travelling trunk bv the members of the Te Awamutu Polo Club was made to Mrs Le Sueur —not to Mr Le Sueur, as stated in our report on Tuesday last.
At the opening of the Waikato Hunt Club’s season on Wednesday, Mr A. Gibb’s horse fell at a fence, and the rider had his collar-bone broken. He was attended by Dr Walls and n moved to his home.
By arrangement with the proprietor of the Premier Pictures, Shima, the exponent of ju-jitsu wrestling, has been specially engaged, and will give a display of his skill at the local Town Hall on Wednesday evening next.
We were informed this morning that a meeting of suppliers of the Dairy Association was held last night. Whether intentional or not, no intimation of such was given to the Press, and consequently we are unable to report it.
During band practice last night the members of the Town Band passed a unanimous vote of thanks to the committee of the Le Sueur social for its contribution to the band funds from the surplus remaining after that function.
We would remind our readers of the general meeting of the Te Awamutu Terminating Building Society, which takes place in the supper room of the Town Hall tonight at 8 o’clock. All interested in the society are cordially invited to attend.
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Lord Alverstone are said to be among the pupils of a new institute of physical culture in London which has been opened by the author of a “fresh air book.” The regimen includes air and sun baths, and favours a minimum of clothing.
At a meeting of the Education Board held in Auckland on Wednesday last it was decided to declare the election of the Te Awamutu School Committee invalid, as the hours of the householders’ meeting had been altered from 7.30 to 8 p.m. A fresh election will be necessary. ' As will be seen by advertisement on our fourth page, the Ford motor car agency has been taken over by Mr J. M. Spear. Spare parts can be obtained at the shortest notice, and all oil, benzine, carbide, tyres, tubes, and accessories will be kept in stockat the garage (Wheeler and Irvine’s building). The third annual plain, fancy, and masquerade dance in connection with ‘he Te Awamutu Philharmonic Society, to be held on Tuesday evening next, promises to be successful and enjoyable. The committee has all the necessary arrangements well in hand, and the number of acceptances to the invitations sent out would seem to indicate that a large number of visitors to the district, as well as local residents will be present.
The third meet of the Waikato Coursing Club took place at Silverdale on Wednesday. The whole of the arrangements were carried out exceptionally well. Fifteen kills were registered out of twenty-four runs. In the first round Brady and Stubb’s Ruffy beat Teddy and Kirkham’s Irish Avon, Coombes’ Master Killen beat McGrath’s Veronica, McNulty’s Spieler beat McGrath’s Winifred, Teddy and Kirkham’s Master McTurk beat Lipsey’s Try Fluke. In the second round Lord Waterford beat Master McTurk. The final will be run tomorrow.
