THE SHOW PRIZE RING.

SHOULD THE GOVERNMENT COMPETE ?

The motion recently put forward by Mr Slack, of the Manawatu A. and P. Association, suggesting the prohibiting of Government stock from competing at the Palmerston show against private breeders was again discussed at the last meeting of the general committee. Mr Balsillie thought it would be a mistake to prevent Government competition. Mr Mcßae did not agree with Mr Balsillie. Mr R. McNab said he did not believe in the Government entering the prize ring, but he did not object to the stock being exhibited. He favoured the matter being brought before the Minister for Agriculture, asking him to forego the right of competition, but exhibit the stock all the same. Mr Short said it was only right to have Government competition, and if private individuals could beat the Government all the more credit to them. Mr Levett agreed with Mr Short. It was decided that the amendment passed at the last meeting be rescinded, and the association will now take no further action in the matter.
