TE AWAMUTU YOUNG MEN’S INSTITUTE.
A meeting ot the committee of 1 the above was held in Mr < Empson’s rooms last night. There . were present: Rev. F. W. Clarke j (president), Dr Reekie, Messrs 1 Wood, Cox, Empson, Fox, and 1 Johns. i The minutes of the previous ; meeting were read and confirmed. ; Mr B. F. Chester wrote tender- : ing his resignation as secretary owing to his departure from the district. This was accepted with regret. Mr W. H. Johns was appointed secretary in his stead. The action of Dr Reekie and : Mr Chester in letting the In- , stitute’s section on a weekly tenancy to Messrs Hodgson Bros, and Mr D. Christian at a rental of 4s per week was approved. It was resolved that a fence on the frontage of the section be erected. For this purpose it was reported that Messrs Lawson and Swain had kindly given a sufficient supply ol posts. This gift was accepted with thanks. It was decided to hire Mr Gilbert’s room at a weeklv rental of 2s 6d : this room to be used for general club purposes, the committee being empowered to arrange for the necessary furnishings. A committee, consisting ot Rev Clarke, Dr Reekie. Messrs Wood, Cox, and Johns, was appointed to make the necessary arrangements for the annual meeting in June. This committee to draw up a programme of fixtures for the next few months ; also to arrange for a series of debates, the first of j which to be arranged, if possible, 1 to take place on the date of the ,! annual meeting. ■ | It was resolved that a fixed | space be arranged in the WAIPA . j POST, all the club’s announceI ments to appear in this space, j A vote of thanks was accorded 1 Dr Reekie for placing a 100-c.p. ‘ lamp at the disposal of the Institute.
