INSPECTION OF STALLIONS.

ACTIVITY IN THE COMMONWEALTH. As an outcome of the recent conference of Ministers of Agriculture, held in Hobart in February last, the chief veterinary officers of four of the Australian States (New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, and Tasmania) met in conference a few weeks ago, to endeavour to arrive at some uniform system throughout the States in connection with the examination and certification of stallions for Government certificates. The other two States, South Australia and Western Australia, were unable to send delegates to the conference, but the former intimated that it would fall in as far as possible, with the decisions arrived at. The whole question was thoroughly discussed, and as a result, the following resolutions were carried : —(i) That uniformity of examination and certification of stallions can be attained throughout the States of the Commonwealth. (2) That early legislation should be enacted to provide that uncertificated horses should not be allowed to travel or stand for public stud purposes. (3) That in the interests of the scheme for examination and certification of stallions, it is highly desirable that stud books of the recognised breeds of horses should be established in each State forthwith.
