VALEDICTORY.

A very pleasing function took place in Nordcn’s sample rooms last evening, when a large number of friends met to bid farewell to Messrs D. and £ McLean, prior to their departure for Wellington. Mr W. Kay. in proposing the toast of the guests of the evening, expressed regret at their departure, and referred to their inanv good qualities. He then presented Mr D. Melean with a handsome set of silver-mounted military hair brushes and cigarette case, and to Mr J. Melean a case of pipes and tobacco pouch. Both the recipients suitably responded. Several eulogistic speeches were made during the evening. Songs were contributed by Messrs Dalton, Oliphant, Berry, and a recitation by J. H. Luxford. Mr Dalton played the accompaniments.
