DETERIORATED BUTTER.
AN allegation that should cause searching inquiry to be made in some New Zealand dairying districts is one regarding the poor quality of New Zealand butter sent to London by some factories. The assertion probably is quite justified, for it is made by the High Commissioner in London for New Zealand. That Mr TMackenzie is as well qualified as most men to pass an opinion on such a matter will be admitted by all competent judges. He has made representations to the New Zealand Government that the outputs of several New Zealand factories are not now of the high quality that they once were. Such a foolish policy as that indicated here should cause grave concern to the directorates of every reputable factory in these islands, for undoubtedly the more careful managements will have to pay penalty for the rapacity or carelessness of the unreasonable directorates or other managing bodies responsible for this deterioration. We understand that the New Zealand Agricultural Department intends t) bring the High Commissioner's complaint directly under the notice of certain of the offenders.
