RANGIAOHIA.
(Own Correspondent),
Messrs F. Wood and Johns very kindly paid us a visit with their lantern views on Thursday evening last, and although the entertainment was especially arranged for the education and general information of the school children, yet quite a number of adults were present, and judging by the applause seemed to enjoy the treat provided equally as much as the youngsters. Mr Johns manipulated the machine, whilst Mr Wood gave the descriptive readings, and both worked hard to give everybody as clear an insight to the various pictures presented as possible. At the close of the entertainment, Mr Thos. Weal, chairman of the local school committee, in a very forcible speech, thanked Messrs Wood and Johns for their kind and interesting entertainment, and expressed the hope that another visit might be expected later. Mr Wood, in reply, stated that both Mr Johns and himself felt it a pleasure to be able to do anything in the way of helping along the general scheme of instruction and amusement of the children of the whole district, and that it was intended to get a further supply of slides suitablefor the plan in view, namely the instruction and- amusement of school children generally, and further stated that both Mr Johns and himself would be only too pleased to pay Rangiaohia another visit later on.
Three cheers were then given for Messrs F. D. Wood and Johns, and a very interesting entertainment terminated without the usual dance.
