FIRE BRIGADE CONCERT.

There was a very poor attendance at the Town Hall on Wednesday evening on the occasion of the first concert given in aid of the Te Awamutu Volunteer Fire Brigade, caused no doubt by the heavy drain made on the public purse by the circus last Saturday. The stage had been very tastefully decorated by the members of the brigade with drapings of green and brown cloth surmounted by flags, and presented a very attractive appearance. The various items were well received, numerous encores being called for. The Te Awamutu Orchestra played the overture and entre acte, giving a very creditable performance. Two new comers on the local concert platform —Mrs Carrick Robertson and Miss Martin —sang several very pretty songs, and were well supported by local talent. A display of physical exercises was given by Misses I. Mclntosh, Stewart, McCutcheon, McGiven, Hutt (2), and F. Rickit, of the Te Awamutu Girls’ Club. The performance was not quite up to the club’s usual high standard, due, no doubt, to the lack of practice during the recess. In the second half a squad from the local boy scouts, consisting of von Stunner _(2), McDonald, W. Groves, D. Merryweathcr, R. Andrew, A. Finch, and J. Clotworthy, gave a very creditable display of signalling. On the rise of the curtain for the second part of the programme Mr E. Moeller returned thanks on behalf of the Brigade to those who had assisted at the concert, and also to the public for its attendance. He had hoped to have seen a larger audience, as the Fire Brigade was certainly worthy of everyone’s support. They all hoped a fire would be long in coming, but it was well to be prepared to fight it when it did come. The following items were rendered: Songs, Miss Martin, Mrs Carrick Robertson, Messrs G. Galloway, O. Price Owen, E. Parker, and A. G. Warburton ; duet, Messrs E. Parker and O. Price Owen ; humorous quartette, Mrs Battson, Miss Martin, Messrs Parker and Battson; double quartette, Mesdames Andrew, Moeller, Black and Battson, Messrs Moeller, 'Parker, Owen and Warburton; violin solo, Mr E. Moeller; protiano trumpet solo, Mr W. J. Dil; physical exercises, Girls’ Club; scout manoeuvres, Boy Scouts. Mrs Henderson very kindly played the accompaniments, and Mrs Black the music for the Girls’ Club exercises.
