KAKEPUKU.
(Own Correspondent.) Until recently, the size of this district did not warrant the formation of a school committee, but with the acquirement of a permanent school site and a new school building, it was deemed necessary to have a governing body to improve and beautify the grounds. Consequently the residents applied for and obtained authority to form a committee. The Rev. Woollass acted as returning officer, and the following members were elected: —Messrs Scott, Oliver, McCallum, Webster and Corlett. At a subsequent committee meeting Mr J. Oliver was elected chairman and Mr McCallum secretary. As the newly-appointed chairman has served on a like body in another district, his services should prove invaluable. The whole district owes a debt of gratitude to Mr Hansen for the enthusiasm with which he has worked for everything connected with the welfare of the district, and but for his efforts, an up-to-date school building would still have been a project of the future. Considerable advance has been made this season in the dairying industry here. The system of . home separation is in vogue, the cream being taken to the Te Mawhai station every other clay. As a consequence of this increase large hay crops have been taken off, the recent fine weather allowing them to be stacked in splendid order. It is pleasing to be able to state that Mr C. Hansen, who met with rather a serious accident while harvesting some time ago, is progressing splendidly, although it will probably be a month or so yet before he will be able to leave the Hamilton Hospital.
