NEW ZEALAND FARMERS' UNION.

PIRONGIA BRANCH. A meeting of the Pirongia branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union was held in Mr Jones' office on Monday, February 3rd, 1913, there being present:—Messrs H. Johnson, W. Beet, T. Seccombe, J. Milligan, J. Sutherland, H. Death, A. W. Jones, and G. Finn. Mr Johnson was elected to the chair. An informal discussion took place re herd testing, about half of those present favouring the establishment of a herd testing association, whilst the remainder were of the opinion that better results would be obtained by the farmers testing their own herds. The secretary was instructed to acquire all possible information on the subject before the next meeting and report. Several of the members seemed at a loss to understand the great variation in the tests of their milk from month to month, and consider the testing of milk privately a matter of considerable importance, The secretary reported having received a letter from head-quarters re getting branches to form slaughtering classes for farmers in view of the present strike. It was resolved that the branch take no steps in the matter as the district is a dairying one, although agreeing that the proposal was most commendable.
