OHAUPO.

FAREWELL TO MR A. TURNWALD. (Own Correspondent.) An exceptionally large gathering took place in the Ohaupo Hall on Tuesday evening to farewell Mr and Mrs Dan Turnwald, who are leaving the district for Takapuna. Mr and Mrs Turnwald have always been very closely associated with the well-being of Ohaupo, and keen regret is expressed at their departure. During the course of the evening, Mr Tooman, in the unavoidable absence of Mr H. J. Greenslade, presented Mr Turnwald with a beautifully illuminated address from the residents, together with a letter of appreciation from the school committee ; while Mrs Robb, on behalf of the ladies, handed Mrs Turnwald a beautiful silver tea service and cake dish, suitably inscribed. In making the presentation, Mr Tooman paid a tribute to the many fine qualities of the recipients, and referred to their ever-ready assistance both in public and private life. Mr Turnwald responded on behalf of Mrs Turnwald and himself. The text of the address was as follows: —

"Anton Turnwald, Esq., Ohaupo, 29th January, 1913. Dear Sir, —We, on behalf of the residents, of Ohaupo, cannot allow you and your family to leave the district with which from your birth you have been associated, without an expression of our sincere regret that you deem it imperative for your future welfare to bid farewell to Ohaupo and the many friends you have made during the 21 years you have been in business amongst us. We desire you to accept this address as a memento, not only of our respect for you and Mrs Turnwald, but also in recognition of the numerous public services you have rendered the district, your close identification with its interests, and the generous support you have accorded every movement for its welfare. We also wish to express our appreciation of the unobtrusive manner in which your good lady has always associated herself with every movement to alleviate distress and promote the social interests of the district. In bidding- you farewell we earnestly trust that everyi fortune will attend you and your family in your new home, and with assurances of our great regard for you, Mrs Turnwald and family, we remain, dear sir, yours very truly, W. Shaw (chairman), A. Kare, A. Graham, A. J. Edwards, H. Bartels, H. Forkert, F. H. Gillett, A. Coggins, E. J. Edwards, V. Marshall, R. Norrish, C. Rauch."
