There will be a meeting of the Town Board on Thursday.
The Chamber of Commerce meets in the Cosmopolitan club room to-night.
Arrangements are well in hand for the scouts' concert on Friday, and a very good programme has been arranged.
Messrs Lawson and Swain report having sold Mr Edward's bakery business to Mr Sutherland, of Whonganiom ma, Taranaki.
It is believed that the Waikato Hospital Board will benefit to the extent of about £ISOO per annum by the passing of the Land Agents' Bill.
Mr E. Newman, M.P., has'received a telegram if rom the Hon. Mr Herries stating that in future the Main Truck express train will stop at Mangaweka.
Members of the Philharmonic Society were unanimous in their praises of the excellent arrangement of the stage in the Kihikihi Town Hall, which were considered to be far ahead 6f those of the Te Awamutu hall.
We much regret having omitted from our report of the Anglican Church bazaar to make any mention of the good work done by Mrs Laurie and Miss Potts, the former in the supper room and the latter at the produce stall.
The, following will represent Te Awamutu in the tennis match against Cambridge here at 2 p.m. to-morrow : —Misses B. McGovern, L. Bond, N. Bond, K. McGovern, Messrs Cox, Johns, Parker, Cruickshank, North, and Dr Henderson.
It has been definitely decided by the Town Board of Ngaruawahia to take the half-holiday poll on 2ist inst., so that the voters may either name Thursday or Saturday as the day which they desire to have declared the statuary half-holiday, after March next. .
The Hamilton Polo Club held its ooening dav on the show grounds atClaudelands on Saturday, visitors being present from Ohaupo, Te Awamutu, Cambridge, and Waihou. Sides were picked, and a number of exciting and closely-contested games were played. '
Taihape was en fete on Thursday on the occasion of the ooening of the new Town Hall, Public Library, and Band Rotunda. These buildings complete the loan work,which includes a water supply, electric light, swimming bath, and fire brigade station, and have cost about £35,000.
The formal opening of the polo season in Auckland took place •on the grounds of the Remuera Polo Club at Remuera, on Saturday, and some interesting polo was witnessed. A match was played between Remuera and Clevedon resulting in a win for the former, the scores being Remuera 9, Clevedon 8. .
Arrangements for the sale of work in connection with the Presbyterian Church at Kihikihi are practically complete, and the event gives promise of being most successful. The sale will be opened on Friday afternoon next by Mr J. A. Young, M.P., and will be.open for business both Friday and Saturday afternoon and evening.
In conversation with our reporter yesterday Mr Gardiner, Mayor of Levin, stated, "that a municipal gas plant had been installed by Mr Blackman at Levin three years ago, and had given the greatest satisfaction. It was now supplying gas to those using it for cooking and lighting at 7s 6d per thousand, lighting at 9s 2d per thousand; A profit of £l5O was shown on last year's working.
The military sports, which were to have been held on 27th ulto., but postponed owing to the wet weather, will take place to-morrow at I p.m., in Mr Pollard's paddock. There have been numerous entries for the various events which include tent-pegging, wrestling on horseback, fours over hurdles, Victoria Cross and leading competitions, and a most interesting afternoon may be looked forward to. Numerous handsome trophies have been donated and keen competition is expected.
A meeting of the local lodge of the United Ancient Order of Druids was held in the lodge room on Monday, 2nd,inst., for the purpose of electing the trustees and officers for the forthcoming year. The following appointments were made: Trustees, Messrs Stonehouse, Wood, and Jeffery; A.D., Mr Mclntyre; treasurer, Mr Lawson ; V.A.B.'s, Messrs Jeffery and Holden ; T.G., Mr Wood ; secretary, Mr Williams. An endeavour will be made to restore the lodge to its former flourishing condition.
