HEREFORD BULL FOR N.Z.
PURCHASE BY MR STUCKEY. Latest English advices bring details of a Hereford sale at Leen Farm, Pembridge, and record the purchase by *Mr James Stuckey of a bull calf for New Zealand. The amount realized from the 164 animals offered was £10,382, the average for the whole sale being about £62 16s 6d per animal. The average for the cows and calves was just over 112 guineas, for the two-year-old heifers 64% guineas, and for the yearlings 57 guineas. The highest price realized during the day was for the Irish-bred Hereford bull Mariner, which sold for 360 guineas. The next highest price was 300 guineas for the bull calf Rufus, calved January 21 last, to go to New Zealand, his dam, Rebecca, making 210 guineas, to an English buyer. Another good price paid was 100 guineas for the heifer calf Guitar, calved May 14.
