The first meeting of the resuscitated branch of the Union was held on October 23rd, a large number of intending members being present.
The election of officers ensued. President, Mr W. G. Macky; vice-presidents, Messrs G. Finch, E. H. Bowman, and C. S. McCallum sen.; secretary, Mr H. Webb ; auditor, Mr S. C. Macky. Correspondence Received.
A copy of a letter received by provincial secretary from the Minister of Railways agreeing to allow owners of small lots of live stock to combine so as to secure the benefits of trucking on condition stock was sent as if from one owner to one consignee. Mail Service to Paterangi. A letter was received from the President of .the Chamber of Commerce, Te Awamutu, supplying information as requested relative to a proposed alteration in the existing mail route. This matter caused a very large amount of discussion, but as the advocates of a change from the present route via Ohaupo to Paterangi, to one from Paterangi to Te Awamutu, failed to bring forward any evidence of a convincing nature to merit the change, it was decided to take no action, and the following resolution, proposed by Mr H. Webb and seconded by Mr Brennan, that in the opinion of this meeting no change is desirable in the present mail route via Ohaupo to Paterangi, was carried unanimously. An idea, was expressed that a supplementary mail in the morning would meet the requirements of the district,'and after consideration it was decided that the secsetary make application to the Postal Department for authority for Mr C. S. McCallum to take this mail by the cream waggon free of charge. Business for Next Meeting.
The secretary was instructed to endeavour to get Mr Lyons to give an address.
