CORRESPONDENCE.

(Out correspondents opinions are theti own; the responsibility of editorial items makes sufficient ballast for the editor's shoulders. It is necessary that all letters fur publicalwn should bear the name of the writer — not necessarily fOl publication, but asaidcnce of good faith.) TO THE EDITOR.

SIR,—I think a word of appreciation is clue to Mr O. Heerdegen for the valuable information he places before us on the merits of. electricity as a lighting system. With him 1 voted for gas, but now I think of it the Town Board should have gone more fully into the merits of every known system. I am anxious that the best interests of the town should be considered, and this will not be, clone if the members of the Town Board hustle us into whatever system of

ighting they have-a particular

fad for. The fullest information should be obtained, and if electricity is the cheapest and the most beneficial to the town as a whole, then I say the already authorised loan for gas works should stand down until ratepayers have been given the opportunity of showing whether the majority in favour of electricity is not greater than it was for gas. I hope that no time will be losC?fh'i obtaining full reports on the electricity proposal.—l am, etc., Spark, to the editor.

SIR, —In these days of socialism, red federationists, etc., etc., and when one gets "nothing for nothing," it was a very pleasing sight to see two gentlemen, who evidently have some thought for other than self. I refer, Mr Editor, to the good work that was clone by Messrs Dudley Bockett and Chester on Wednesday afternoon last in cleaning up the flower beds at Victoria Park. Such an example is worthy of any amount of. copying, and as I believe the Domain Board is seriously hampered in its work by the absence of funds, it is to be hoped that this highly praiseworthy example set by the two gentlemen in question will be taken to heart by numerous other gentlemen of the township, and it will not be long in that case when Victoria Park will become what it deserves to be, the beauty spot of the district. —I am, etc., "■*%, ' Admirer.
