FOOTBALL.
The efforts of those desirous of establishing an Association football team in Te Awamutu resulted in a very enjoyable match being played against a visiting teanr from Te Kuiti on Saturday afternoon in Bockett’s paddock. Notwithstanding the fact that this is the- first occasion which the home team had taken part in a match, a very creditable performance was given, resulting in a win for Te Awamutu, the- score being, To Awamutu 4, Te Kuiti 2. Judging from the form displayed on Saturday, there is little doubt that with practice a really good team will be forthcoming next season to represent Te Awamutu. Most of those composing the home team on Saturday were old soccer players, and it is certainly to be hoped that next year will see a club formed, and this really excellent game placed on a firm footing here. The following represented Te Awamutu: —Goal, S. Bonnar ; backs, W. Bickerstaff and A. Mclnnes; %-backs, W. Pope, T. Mclnnes, and J. Pearson ; forwards, W. Boyne, T. Turnbull, Simpson, BaxterMr W. Patten acted as referee.
