LECTURE AT KIHIKIHI.

(Own Correspondent). In the Presbyterian Church on October Ist, Mr Owen delivered a very interesting lecture entitled, “ The Men of the Seas and their Ways.” At intervals during the evening suitable musical items were also rendered. The audience, though not large, was most attentive, and at the conclusion of the lecture, Mr Elmsly proposed a vote of thanks, and expressed a wish to hear Mr Owen deliver the lecture in the Town Hall at no distant date. The lecturer covered a long period of time in the course of his. remarks, dwelling upon the great growth of sea power, from the time of Alfred the Great until the present time, and the wonderful changes in the work and life of the men of the sea, brought about by historical and mechanical changes. Personal anecdotes and accounts of skippers he had met, brightened the lecture and kept the younger people interested. Life on deck and below was also dealt with, also the sterner side of the sailor’s life, ‘"lhe rail to duty,” “ The Lifeboat.”
