General

Mr Ste,wart mentioned that enquirfts had been made for the purchase or lease of a portion of the section belonging to the Institute. It was the desire of the trustees to obtain from the general meeting an expression of opinion on the desirability /or otherwise of doing so. At the , tirfi.e of its acquisition he would have scouted the notion of parting with any portion of it, but he had since come to the conclusion that they might have to part with some of it to provide funds for carrying on the purpose of the Institute. Dr Reekie considered that it was quite unnecessary to talk of selling a portion of the land as it would be easy to mortgage it and by that means to raise sufficient funds.

Mr Teasdale expressed himself as being astonished at the question.of the sale of a portion of the section being brought up. He certainly did not think the trustees had any power to dispose of the section, which had been given by the Government for the good of the people of Te Awa-

mutu. If sufficient interest was not taken in the Institute at presif would be a simple matter until there was, and meantime the section would be increasing in value. Further discussion took place, and resulted in the passing of the following motion That this meeting of members at its annual general meeting desires to respectfully express to the trustees that they will not consent to a disposal of the freehold or leasehold 4*f their section, but rather keep the land and raise funds upon it to build offices and club rooms.
