A plain and fa ncy dress ball undei the auspices of the Ohaupo branch of the territorials was held in the hall last Thursday evening, upwards of 25 couples occupying the floor. A prize was given for the best lady's fancy dress, which was deservedly won by Miss Dot Ranch as "Snowball.'' Amongst the others were noticed the Misses Emett, "Night and Day;" Bartels, "Red Riding Hood" ; E. Bell, " Patchwork" ; A. Bell, "Red, White and Blue" ; and N. Bell, " Starlight." Messrs E. Bartels, " Negro" ; Emett, "Red Indian"; Rossiter. " Cowboy"; Forkert, " Clown" ; C. Settauer, "Lieutenant"; C. Teddy, "6lst Lancers." The gent's prize went to Mr A. Emett as " Red Indian." Amongst the ladies in evening dress were noticed Mesdames Tooman, Kusabs, McLauchlan, and Fenton; Misses Bell (3), Ranch (4), Johnstone, Karl, Smith, and Burrows (2). These dances are becoming very popular, and should assist in raising the funds for such a good cause, a gymnasium for the Ohaupo Territorials.
