A very enjoyable function tookplace in Oliaupo on Tuesday evening last, the occasion being a farewell tendered to Messrs Jno. Douglas, A. Kusabs, and Taylor on the eve of their departure from this town. Mr C.
Richards occupied the chair, and in opening the proceedings, proposed the toast of the King. Between the toasts a few other items were contributed. Mr Geo.
Bartlett set the ball rolling by, singing “ Corporal Donoghue ” in his usual style. The toast of “ The Ladies ” was proposed by
Mr Turnwald and responded to by Messrs J. Teddy jnr., and A. Carter. Pianoforte solo by Mr Bryers. Toast, “ Local Industries” proposed by Mr Tooman and responded to by Messrs Barnott and Robb. Song (comic), Mr Chas. Cullen. Toast, ‘‘Local Carriers and Contractors,” proposed by Mr F. Cullen, and responded to by Messrs J. Midl-
and C. . Teddy. Recitation, “Leather Breeches,” Mr J. Tooman. Toast, “The Guests,” responded to by Messrs Tooman, Bailey, and A. Turnwald. S mg, Mr Carter. Mr Richards, ‘in proposing the health of Mr Molesworth, said that he wished one and all to do full justice to the toast, adding that as host ht would be very hard to beat. A recitation by and a song by Mr Richards followed. Before the wind-up Mr Moles-
worth was called upon to say a few words, and on rising, said during the time he had-known Mr Douglas he had never known him to;have an idle moment. He joined* with the others in wishing Mr Douglas every success in Te Awamutu. Messrs Taylor and Kusabs are being transferred to Matamata, where the Farmers’
Co-operative Auctioneering Company are opening another branch to cope with their fast-increasing
business. At the close of the evening all joined in singing “ Auld Lang Syne.” Ohaupo has now a visiting solicitor, Mr E. A. Cox, of Te Awamutu, who has opened an office here, and may be consulted every Tuesday.
